Chelsea decide to back Frank Lampard with no candidate in line to replace him
Chelsea: Should Lampard be given more time to succeed?
Chelsea have reportedly made the decision to fully support Frank Lampard to turn things around after a poor run of results. Lampard has come under increasing pressure with the club dropping to eighth in the table following their 3-1 defeat to Manchester City.
Chelsea started the season in good form, going on a run of nine games unbeaten in the league to lift them towards the top of the Premier League.
But results took a turn for the worse over the festive period with Chelsea winning just one of their last six matches.
After spending close to £250million in the summer, there were high expectations for Chelsea to make big strides this season.
But German duo Timo Werner and Kai Havertz – two of their most expensive signings – have struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League.

Lampard has similarly come under fire for not finding a system to get the best out of the two summer signings.
And recent results have led to pressure mounting on Lampard with reports emerging that the hierarchy are concerned about the direction the club are heading in under Lampard.
ESPN also claim there is ‘alarm’ among Chelsea officials with a top-four spot being the absolute minimum expected of Lampard this season.
But the report adds that Chelsea are prepared to fully back Lampard despite the recent run of results.
DON’T MISS
Lampard’s legendary status at Stamford Bridge is said to be playing a part in giving the head coach more time to turn things around.
And there are reportedly no candidates currently in mind to take over from Lampard.
Chelsea have a chance to pick up some form this week with an FA Cup tie against League Two side Morecambe followed by a Premier League match against Fulham.
And despite winning just one of their last six matches, Chelsea are only three points away from a top-four spot.
However, the report goes on to hint at potential troubles for Lampard among several players.
It is claimed that a number of players have expressed their frustrations at Lampard’s tactics and they feel he’s yet to discover his first-choice starting line-up.
Thomas Tuchel and Max Allegri have been touted as possible candidates to take over at Stamford Bridge with the former recently being sacked by Paris Saint-Germain.
