Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia has reportedly been offered the chance to sign Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich in a deal that could see Timo Werner potentially head the other way, reports claim. The prolific Bayern Munich frontman received the inaugural Striker of the Year award at Monday night’s France Football award ceremony in Paris before finishing second in the final Ballon d’Or standings behind Lionel Messi.

Yet while it was the Argentine who took home the main prize, Lewandowski received has received universal praise for his efforts in the past two seasons for both club and country.

In 2020, he helped fire Bayern to a stunning treble that included Champions League glory in Lisbon.

And 2021 has been an even better season on a personal level having netted 64 goals in 54 matches.

The 33-year-old is now approaching the final 18 months of his contract and while Bayern are not yet hitting the panic button, there is a feeling that Lewandowski wants to try something different for the final stage of his career.

According to football consultant Ian McGarry, Lewandowski’s agent Pini Zahavi is keen to utilise his close contacts at Chelsea to see if a deal is viable.

He told the Transfer Window Podcast: “Pini Zahavi, often described as the original super-agent, represents Lewandowski and has done for more than two years.

“Zahavi is also a close-confidant of Marina Granovskaia and it is certainly the case that he has offered Lewandowski to Chelsea and Granovskaia.

“It’s a move which could include Werner going to Bayern.”

Werner is understood to be open to leaving Chelsea after just one-and-a-half seasons in west London due to frustrations surrounding his lack of game time this season.

Bayern were thought to be open to signing Werner before Chelsea swooped in ahead of Liverpool to seal a £47.5million deal in 2020.

As previously mentioned, the Bayern hierarchy appeared to be relaxed when it comes to keeping star man Lewandowski.

Chairman Herbert Hainer said back in August: “We’re happy with Robert. But we don’t have to extend the contract now, we still have 2 years.

“As I said, I can imagine Robert staying beyond 2023. We’re in permanent talks with all our players, including Lewy. But now is still early.”

Yet if the forward wants to try a different league before his retirement, he is likely to instruct Zahavi to broker a move elsewhere.

The agent, who is also an accomplice of Roman Abramovich, said earlier this week that his client was more deserving of the Ballon d’Or than seven-time winner Messi.

“Robert was not robbed, but he is the man who deserves it,” he told the press.

“No wonder that many hundreds of millions of fans find it hard to believe the end result of this prestigious football event.

“Monday evening should have ended with Robert celebrating his first Ballon d’Or.”
