Chelsea board behind Graham Potter and want him judged ‘in years not months’
The Chelsea board are willing to measure Graham Potter’s progress “in years not months” despite the Blues’ faltering form.
The West Londoners were held to a frustrating 1-1 stale mate by West Ham United. Their third consecutive draw leaves them languishing in ninth position, but they will drop down into 10th if Liverpool beat Everton in the Merseyside Derby.
Potter has only won five of his 16 Premier League matches since taking over the reins from Thomas Tuchel. Nevertheless, the Chelsea board are still giving the former Brighton and Hove Albion manager their firm backing.

According to the Athletic, the Chelsea hierarchy believes he needs to be judged ‘in years not months’ and are confident Potter is still their man. That is in spite of the fact he has only recorded two victories in his last 13 Premier League matches.
The report also understands the board appreciate lots of change are still to be made at the club and are therefore willing to not judge Potter on whether Chelsea qualify for the Champions League or not. Chelsea trail the top four by ten points and travel to Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 on Wednesday.
Despite the draw, he still thinks the Blues took another step forward against the Hammers. "I felt today was a step forward," Potter said after the game. "Performance-wise started the game well. You're always rocked by the goal because that's football and something for us to learn from and do better with.

“Overall, a step forward to the week that we've used. We've had a good training week but when it's not reflected in three points, there's always stuff you can do better." When asked about the progress new signings such as Benoit Badiashile, Mykhalo Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez, and Noni Madueke have made, Potter added, “"It's a challenge [for all the new signings to gel] but it's my job," the Chelsea head coach continued.
"It's exciting, it tests you because you have to make sure you communicate properly and manage the environment because otherwise it can go not very positive. "The week has been a really good training week, spirit in the group is really good, not just the team. They know what it is, they're not stupid. There's big competition for places.
"We need healthy competition, we need training to be better and better because that's how you improve. Then you just have to have honest conversations and respect the fact players will be disappointed because that's normal. It would be strange if it wasn't. These are top professionals, top people, they handle themselves well."
