Chelsea avoiding buyers from 2 countries as Roman Abramovich "not rushing" sale

Roman Abramovich is reportedly in no rush to sell Chelsea and the Russian oligarch will not consider bids from either China or Saudi Arabia.

Abramovich announced his intentions to sell Chelsea for the "best interests of the club".

The statement came just days after Abramovich had announced his intention to hand the 'stewardship' of Chelsea over to its trustees.

But, according to Reuters, Abramovich is in no rush to sell Chelsea, even with the possibilities of sanctions against the Russian oligarch.

The news of the sale follows Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine, but there is no suggestion Abramovich is in any way linked to the situation.

Chelsea have asked Joe Ravitch, the co-founder of investment bank Raine Group LLC, to find a buyer for the club.

Ravitch said: "We are not going to rush anything. It is very important that Chelsea have the right owner to guide the club forward."

But according to Reuters' source, that buyer won't come from either China or Saudi Arabia.

The source has claimed that officials at Chelsea are hoping the change of ownership will not be politically controversial.

Abramovich also said in his statement: "I have instructed my team to set up a charitable foundation where all net proceeds from the sale will be donated.

"The foundation will be for the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine.

"This includes providing critical funds towards the urgent and immediate needs of victims, as well as supporting the long-term work of recovery."
