Chelsea and Man City fans fume at flight prices as Champions League final moved
The Champions League has confirmed that the final venue has been moved from the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul to FC Porto's Estadio do Dragao.
The switch comes amidst rising Coronavirus cases in Turkey, and it's the second time in two years Istanbul has been stripped of the final in favour of Portugal.
However, with two English teams in the final, many fans – and pundits – believe that the showcase should have been moved to Wembley instead.
They believe that Wembley would allow easier access to fans: who have been forced to watch matches from afar – with games being played behind closed doors – for the better part of a year.
"Joke decision. It's stuff like that winds so many people up. Is it any wonder the top clubs are looking to join an ESL," a Chelsea fan fumed on Twitter.
"Well, that makes zero sense. I assume UEFA just didn’t want post-Brexit U.K. to get it then!" another fan remarked.
And the announcement didn't go down too well in the Manchester City camp either.
One fan tweeted: "This is pathetic," whilst tagging the official Champions League account.
However, one City decided to remain optimistic: "Doesn't matter… gives more reason to our Portuguese boys to wanna win it at home."
Portugal was recently added to the UK's green list, allowing fans to attend the final without quarantining.
However, with the final now in Portugal – as opposed to London – there are now additional costs.
Flights to Porto – through Ryanair – on Wednesday evening were £115, they are now over £300 and rising all the time.

ESPN's Mark Ogden is reporting the reasoning for moving the final was: "While Polish govt has waived quarantine rules for fans with tickets attending Europa League final in Gdansk, UK govt wouldn't do same for visiting fans / staff / sponsors etc for CL Final.
"That's why it's going to Porto. UK govt decision. UEFA wanted Wembley."
