Chelsea and eight-year deals ‘better love story than Twilight’ as Jackson joins
Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Villarreal striker Nicolas Jackson on an eight-year contract.
The 22-year-old put pen to paper on the eight-year deal after the Blues paid slightly more than his £30.1million release clause in order to negotiate favourable payment terms for Chelsea.
Jackson scored 13 goals in 38 games in all competitions for the Yellow Submarine last season – catching the eye after he finished the season by scoring nine goals in his last eight La Liga games.
But it’s not the Senegalese’s goal return that has caught the most attention, but instead, the eight-year contract that Chelsea have offered him.

Since Todd Boehly’s arrival last summer at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have opted to offer their new signings incredibly long contracts in order to spread out how much the club pays in the eyes of Financial Fair Play regulations.
Last season saw Wesley Fofana and David Datro Fofana sign seven-year contracts, whilst Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke, Malo Gusto and Mykhailo Mudryk sign eight-year contracts upon their arrival.
What do you make of Chelsea’s eight-year contracts? Let us know in the comments section.
With Jackson the latest on that list, one fan on Twitter said: “Chelsea and 8 year contracts are a better love story than Twilight.”
A second commented: “8 years is crazy!” Whilst a third wrote: “8 years? Chelsea handing out these contracts again lol.”
Another said: “Eight-year contract damn what is with Chelsea.” With an eight-year contract now becoming synonymous with the Blues’ transfer dealings.
Jackson becomes new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino’s second signing at the club after Christopher Nkunku completed his long awaited transfer in a deal worth £52million from RB Leipzig.
It’s unlikely that Jackson will be the last arrival at Stamford Bridge this summer going by Chelsea’s signings last season and the mass exodus going on at the club currently.
Chelsea have seen Kai Havertz join Arsenal and have agreed a fee with Manchester United to sign Mason Mount. Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy have both left to join Al Hilal and Al Ahli respectively, with N’Golo Kante also heading to Saudi Arabia to join Al-Ittihad.
There’s still a decision to be made on Romelu Lukaku’s future at the Bridge with the Belgian’s loan deal expiring at Inter Milan. The 30-year-old is still under contract at Chelsea and could rival Jackson for a starting spot next season if he stays.
