Chelsea already have ‘the new Sterling’ as Pochettino handed Mudryk welcome gift
Chelsea winger Mykhaylo Mudryk has similarities to a young Raheem Sterling, according to Ally McCoist. The Rangers legend has backed the Ukraine star to come good next season under incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Chelsea stole Mudryk from under Arsenal’s nose in the January transfer window. They committed to spending up to £88million on the 22-year-old despite him playing fewer than 50 games for Shakhtar Donetsk.
He arrived having scored 12 goals and registered 17 assists in 44 games for Shakhtar. However, it has not gone to plan so far for him at Stamford Bridge.
Mudryk is yet to score for the Blues and has just two assists in 15 outings. Eight of his appearances have come off the bench so he has been unable to get a regular run in the side.

Sterling has had a difficult first season at Chelsea having joined from Manchester City last summer. His brace against Nottingham Forest on Sunday ended a run of 11 Premier League games without a goal.
But McCoist can see comparisons between the England star and Mudryk from earlier in his career. The radio pundit has backed Mudryk to eventually come good in west London.
McCoist said of Mudryk on talkSPORT: “I think there’s a player in there. I think he’ll come good.
“He reminds me a little bit, let me explain myself when I say, of Sterling years ago at Manchester City. Lightning pace but there was a question mark against his level of finishing, the quality of finishing.

“Sterling hasn’t been great at Chelsea, he got a couple of goals at the weekend but hasn’t been great. But his finishing definitely improved, definitely improved. And I think Mudryk will be the same.
“I think Mudryk’s at the stage now where his pace will get him so many opportunities but he’s one of these players that actually needs to slow down in his finishing and realise that nine times out of 10 he’ll have a split second more than he thinks he has to think about the finish. Mudryk’s one of these players that would be exciting to work with and exciting to play with.
“I’m a fan, I saw him absolutely destroy Celtic at Celtic Park as well. As I say, clearly the best of Mudryk is still to come.”
