Former Liverpool and Stoke City star Charlie Adam has been arrested and charged on suspicion of drink driving after allegedly hitting a tree in the early hours of Monday morning.
Adam, who is now the captain of Scottish Premiership outfit Dundee, is said to have been travelling near Dundee when the incident occurred at 4:25am on Monday.
Images from the scene appear to show a damaged tree trunk and what appears to be at least two car parts strewn by the side of the road.
The midfielder – who turned 36 last Friday – was arrested and charged and a report will be sent to prosecutors.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said of the incident: "Shortly after 4.25am on Monday, December 13, 2021 a 36-year-old man was arrested and charged for a road traffic offence in Dundee Road West, Dundee.
"A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."
A Dundee spokesperson said: "We are aware of the incident but will be making no further comment."
The Sun report a person who lives near the scene as alleging: "I heard a loud bang outside and then silence.
"I didn’t think much more of it because you hear cars going up and down that road all the time.
"It wasn’t until the next morning I noticed a big gouge out of the tree. I was just hoping no one had been hurt."
Dundee are currently tenth in the Scottish Premiership and face an away trip to mid-table Hibernian on Tuesday night.
Adam was unlikely to feature in the clash regardless after he suffered an injury in The Dee's 3-2 loss to Ross County on Saturday.
The Scotland international joined Dundee in 2020 after leaving Championship side Reading.
He has made 17 appearances this season for his hometown club, scoring once against Forfar in the Scottish League Cup.
