Celtic defender Welsh linked with a move to Serie A side Hellas Verona
Celtic defender Stephen Welsh emerges as target for Serie A side Hellas Verona as he bids for first team football… with Bologna also keeping tabs on the 23-year-old
Celtic defender Stephen Welsh could be one of the first players to leave the club this summer after emerging as a target for Serie A side Hellas Verona.
His Scotland Under-21s teammate Josh Doig has impressed since leaving Hibs for Verona in a £3million deal last summer — and is now the target of a player plus-cash proposal from Lewis Ferguson’s Bologna.
Bologna are also keeping an eye on Welsh’s situation, with the 23-year- old keen to secure first-team football.
Winger Liel Abada is also eyeing an exit after turning down a new contract, and Rodgers plans to discuss the futures of a number of players before flying to Japan and South Korea for games against Yokohama F Marinos, Gamba Osaka and Wolves.
Insisting he will have the final say on new signings, Rodgers added: ‘You have knowledge of certain markets or knowledge that you might be able to get a player that’s just become available.
