Cash-strapped Barcelona ‘in talks’ with sensational return for Alexis Sanchez
Barcelona could offer Alexis Sanchez an opportunity to reignite his career, with the player and club in talks for a possible return to the Nou Camp.
Reports are emerging in Spain, as per Sport, that Sanchez is in advanced talks with the La Liga giants and Inter Milan are happy to let the 32-year-old leave on loan.
It's no secret that Barca's finances are in turmoil.
Their dreadful campaign will unlikely be amended in January when the transfer window is open.
With debts exceeding £1billion, as well as some legislative factors, Xavi Hernandez will have less than £8.5million to spend on strengthening the squad in the winter period, according to ESPN.
It means they will have to look for free agents or players on loan.
Sanchez fits the bill but his form over the past several years has been torrid.
The Chilean has started just two games this season while his overall record for the Nerazzurri stands at just two goals and three assists from his 14 appearances.
After an unsatisfactory stint at Manchester United across two seasons, Sanchez initially joined Inter on loan in August 2019.
He made the move permanent a year later but still hasn’t been able to rekindle the same form he had for periods at Arsenal.
Inter boss Simeone Inzaghi had given Sanchez a start against Cagliari on Sunday, and he even scored his first league goal of the season in a 4-0 victory.
Can Alexis Sanchez rekindle his form at Barcelona? Let us know in the comments section.
But it appears that he’s now destined for a move back to the Nou Camp, an arena where he enjoyed some of his best football at.
From 2011 to 2014, Sanchez won a La Liga title, a Spanish Cup, two Spanish Super Cups and one Club World Cup.
It’s thought that Sanchez is a cheap option to come in and replace Sergio Aguero, who joined from Manchester City over the summer but announced his retirement from football owing to a heart problem.
Luuk de Jong’s current situation could come into play too. The forward is currently on loan at Barcelona from Sevilla, and the Andulician club are willing to allow him to swap clubs.
It means the Dutchman, 31, could be used as leverage in the deal, with him heading to the Serie A and Sanchez coming the other way.
And that could in turn see De Jong being part of a swap deal involving Sanchez, with the Dutchman heading to the Nerazzurri.
Inter, the current table leaders and reigning champions take on Salernitana on Friday already on 40 points from 17 games.
