Carragher’s three-position Liverpool shopping list and players they could sign
Liverpool's season is in danger of unravelling with their title hopes almost gone with a battle for the top-four their priority for the second half of the season.
Defeat to Manchester City last time out leaves them 10 points behind the Premier League leaders.
And Reds legend Jamie Carragher believes Jurgen Klopp’s side will need help in the summer in order to go again and rival City.
"This is a team who have gone to the well and produced unbelievable moments and trophies for this club, which is why I find it a little bit hard to be too critical of this team,” he told Sky Sports.
"They just haven’t stopped for three years. That’s why I say they need a little bit of help.
“They need three players. A centre back, someone to replace [Georginio] Wijnaldum and someone to come in for the front three."
With that in mind, Star Sport have looked at some of the players that could be on Klopp’s wishlist.
Central defender
Despite signing Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies on deadline day, Liverpool could still look for a more high-profile arrival to partner Virgil van Dijk.
According to reports in Italy, Klopp retains an interest in Inter defender Milan Skriniar. Tottenham were heavily linked with the 25-year-old in January, although he ultimately stayed with the Italian giants.
It is likely he will cost at least £45million, but could offer the kind of high quality addition that van Dijk did in 2018.
Dayot Upamecano is another believed to be on Liverpool’s radar. The RB Leipzig star has a €42.5m release clause that becomes active in the summer, something that is sure to spark a scramble across Europe.
Brighton’s Ben White is another that has been linked with a move to Anfield, the 23-year-old has impressed in his first season in the Premier League. However, after signing a new deal at The Amex in September, any move could be costly.
Wijnaldum replacement

The Netherlands international could still remain with the club, although with just months left remaining on his deal, that outcome is looking more and more unlikely.
Should he leave, there will be an obvious gap that Klopp will need to plug. Lille star Boubakary Soumare is one that has been touted as a target previously, with Manchester United also believed to be monitoring his situation.
The 21-year-old has already made almost 100 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit earning rave reviews for many of them.
One criticism of Wijnaldum has been his lack of output in goalscoring terms, Franck Kessie is a midfielder that doesn’t have the same struggles.
Kessie already has seven goals this season for Milan and has regularly chipped in previously.
If Liverpool want Premier League experience to replace Wijnaldum, they could turn to Brighton’s stand out midfielder Yves Bissouma.
The Reds are one of a number of clubs believed to be keen on the 24-year-old, reports suggested a move was considered in January, but that could be reignited in the summer.

The trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have had unrivaled success in recent seasons, but there have been some signs of the dynamic forward line starting to slow down.
Diogo Jota made a massive impact after signing from Wolves and could force his way into the XI when he returns to full fitness.
Liverpool, like almost every other club in Europe, would be automatically improved by the signing of Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.
Eurosport claimed last year that the Reds were firmly in the race for Haaland, who has 22 goals in as many games, is likely to break the bank, but could be a fortune changing type arrival.

Any list of forward players that Liverpool could sign must include Kylian Mbappe. The World Cup winner has been linked with a move to Anfield for years and is most supporter’s dream transfer.
Like Haaland, any move for Mbappe would likely cost more than £100m, which will be difficult in the current financial climate.
If Liverpool are looking for a slightly cheaper option, Adama Traore could come into focus. The Spaniard is another that has been touted for a number of months and a deal could be agreed for less than the other two names on this list.
Jota has proved Nuno’s coaching methods are a good foundation for what Klopp is looking to build upon on Merseyside.
