Jamie Carragher has described Darwin Nunez as a ‘rough diamond’ as he says he ‘wouldn’t want to play against’ the Liverpool striker because of his speed.
Nunez missed a number of big chances as the Reds crashed out of the Carabao Cup in a 3-2 defeat to rivals Manchester City.
The 23-year-old summer signing though showed what he could do with his bursting run leading to him getting an assist for Mohamed Salah’s goal which made it 2-2 early in the second-half.

Nunez missed some key chances but his speed was a threat for Manchester City on Thursday
Though the Reds crashed out of the tournament they won last season, with Nunez’s missed chances playing a big part, Carragher did have some praise for the Uruguayan international.
He told Sky Sports: ‘He is a rough diamond. He will never had a quiet game, he will either score or will show a series of missed chances.
‘He is not the most technical in terms of finishing. He tries to burst the net but there is definitely something to work with but you wouldn’t want to play against him with that pace.’

Though Nunez was signed to be the main centre-forward for Liverpool, Reds legend Carragher believes he could play as a winger in upcoming months.
A void has opened up on the left-side of the attacking three with Luis Diaz ruled out for several months with an injury.
Carragher said: ‘I think right now because of Diaz injury he played through the centre.
‘I think when Liverpool get Roberto Firmino back he will go wide, but he will become that centre forward in future.’

Nunez has scored nine goals in 19 appearances since joining the Reds over the summer
Nunez joined Liverpool in the summer for £64million, which could rise up to £85m in add-ons.
Though there have been times where his finishing has come under questioning, the young forward has still scored nine goals in 19 appearances this season across all competitions.
He has also made three assists, with Mary Earps of Manchester United Women saying after his assist for Salah: ‘Liverpool needed to do something to get back into the game. The pace from Nunez, oh my goodness me. It is a great ball, but to overtake Laporte and to pull it back (for Salah).’
