Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher admits he is ‘worried’ about the progress of bitter rivals Manchester United under Erik ten Hag.
The Red Devils have struggled since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2012, with their last trophy coming in 2017 under Jose Mourinho.
But Man United are currently third in the Premier League, just seven points behind leaders Arsenal, and have reached the final of the Carabao Cup at Wembley.
‘It does feel different to me under Erik ten Hag,’ Carragher said on Sky Bet’s The Overlap.
‘I always felt there was a negativity around the previous managers. With Jose Mourinho it felt like there were problems between him and the board.

‘With Louis van Gaal, I’m not sure the fans were ever on board with his style of football. And with Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer], no one ever thought he would be a manager who could win United a title.
‘But now it feels like they’ve got a manager who knows what he’s doing. Also, it feels like there’s a spirit at United that we haven’t seen for a while.
‘It feels like that’s coming back. I think there’s something happening at Manchester United that I didn’t see with those other managers. So it’s worry, yeah!’
United could also soon receive the financial backing of a group of Qatari investors or Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Britain’s richest man and a lifelong United supporter.
A group of five serious bidders have emerged as the battle to buy Manchester United heads for next Friday’s ‘soft deadline’ for offers, with some bids already made.
Carragher does not expect United to challenge for the title this season and expects Arsenal to win the Premier League under ‘manager of the season’ Mikel Arteta.
Carragher added: ‘I’ve tipped them for the title because I’m not sure Man City can get back to their best.
‘The longer Man City are like this, the more breathing space Arsenal have got. That buffer Arsenal have right now is quite sizable. I think they will hold on.’
He also predicted Southampton, Bournemouth and Leeds United will be relegated to the Championship.
