Jamie Carragher has told his former club Liverpool to be more like Chelsea after criticising Jurgen Klopp’s effort in the cup competitions.

The Reds have been in fine form under the German coach and are tussling for the title in the Premier League.

Under his stewardship, they have become one of the most feared sides in Europe and have a ferocious attack including Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

However, for all of Liverpool’s fine work, Klopp still has just two trophies to his name – albeit the best two available in the Premier League and the Champions League.

Club legend Carragher is not happy, though, and believes the Reds boss should start taking the cup competitions more seriously.

Since Roman Abramovich bought Chelsea, the Blues have been remarkable at landing trophies – hoovering up 10 over the last decade.

And Carragher wants to see that ruthless side of the sport at Liverpool, criticising Klopp for his lack of intent.

“His team have not won enough,” he said in his column for The Telegraph. “Out of context, that sounds extremely unfair. A better way of putting it is that they have not won as much as their performances have deserved.

“To put it simply, Liverpool need to become more like Chelsea.

“What they have done so well during the Roman Abramovich era is to become serial trophy collectors. That is an area where Liverpool can and must improve.”

Under Klopp, the FA Cup and League Cup have taken a backseat with the competitions used by the German to rotate his squad.

Last season, Liverpool crashed out of both tournaments at the fourth round – though they remain in the Carabao Cup this year and are looking to make it to the final.

The closest the Reds have come to a cup with Klopp at the helm was in 2016 when he had joined just months before.

They reached the final of the League Cup, only to be beaten by City in the final on penalties.
