Carragher leaves Richards in stitches as Leao can’t understand pundit
Lampard insists Chelsea 'will be back' after Champions League exit
Micah Richards was left almost crying tears of laughter as AC Milan star Rafael Leao struggled to understand Jamie Carragher. Leao, a reported Chelsea transfer target, was interviewed by Richards, Carragher and Thierry Henry after helping Milan reach the Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday night.
The winger excelled in the 1-1 draw with Serie A rivals Napoli, completing a sensational solo run to set up Olivier Giroud’s goal. It was a result that sealed the club’s path to the last-four as they had won the first leg 1-0.
And Carragher wondered whether Leao fancied a Milan derby in the semi-final. Speaking to Leao on CBS Sports, he asked: “Rafael, when you see the games tomorrow and you see the big rival of yours, Inter Milan, are in the other semi-final, would you like that, a big semi-final with your biggest rival?”
Leao, whose mother tongue is Portuguese but spoke fluent English in the interview, responded: “I don’t understand. Could you repeat, please?”
Carragher joked back: “They (other pundits) all have the same problem!”

Attempting to simplify the question, the former Liverpool defender continued: “Inter Milan are playing [their semi-final] tomorrow. Internazionale. Would you like to face them in the semi-final?”
The moment Carragher said ‘Internazionale’, former Premier League champion Richards was unable to maintain his composure. The ex-Fiorentina star was left in stitches over Carragher’s pronunciation of Inter’s full name.
Leao still could not understand Carragher so it was left to presenter Kate Abdo to ask the attacker the question. Finally registering what was asked, the 23-year-old smiled and exclaimed: “Ah, okay!”
Carragher quipped: “Yes, Rafael!” Leao added: “I can’t hear very well. It will be good [to play Inter]. I wish to play against them. To play against Inter will be a great game. The passion we will put into the game will be the same we put into today [versus Napoli], or more.

“Playing against Inter, the atmosphere will be crazy in Milan. We will have to give 100 per-cent, yes.”
As the broadcast switched back to the studio, Richards could still be seen in stitches over Carragher’s question. In hysterics, Richards shouted: “Internazionale! If he doesn’t under ‘Inter’, how is he supposed to understand Internazionale?”
Carragher, who was also laughing, joked back: “It was worth a try!”
Leao and AC Milan will learn whether they will get a huge Milan derby in the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday night. Inter lead Benfica 2-0 on aggregate heading into the second leg of their quarter-final tie.
