Carlos Tevez left in tears over Christmas period after Premier League move

Former Manchester City and Manchester United star Carlos Tevez was left in tears over his first Christmas in the UK.

Football and Christmas have been linked across the British Isles ever since football was first played. However, football is strictly British tradition – and most countries across the globe take a winter break over the festive period.

And that lack of break – and resulting family time – left Tevez in tears, according to Patrice Evra. Evra, speaking to Betfair, said: "I remember we played on New Year's Day at Newcastle. I remember the night before we had dinner at 7pm, and then at 7:30pm, everyone went to their room.

"I went to my bedroom and I remember I went to see Carlos Tevez in his room, and he was in tears.

"I said: 'Carlito, what's happened?' He said to me that it's a tradition to celebrate with family and he was so emotional that he wasn't with his kids, it was quite tough for him. I woke up the next day and it was like nothing had happened.

"And people were just like 'oh yeah, Happy New Year'."

Tevez had first moved to England with West Ham, but the move came in January – meaning he'd already spent the Christmas period at home. And so it came as a shock almost 12 months later, now at the Red Devils, when he played on Boxing Day.

However, Tevez appeared to get used to the Christmas demands – and he remained in England until 2013, when he moved to Juventus.
