The Carabao Cup quarter-finals are almost upon us with seven teams already confirmed in the next round. Manchester City and Liverpool are currently duking it out for the final spot in the draw and four ties will be drawn out of the pot shortly after full-time.

The pair are bidding to be one of just two Premier League Big Six teams into the last eight, joining Manchester United. Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils beat Championship title favourites Burnley 2-0 at Old Trafford last night to secure their place in this evening’s draw.

Newcastle are another major threat in the competition with Eddie Howe’s high-flying Magpies desperate to deliver a first major trophy for the Toon since 1955. They have never lifted the League Cup before.

While Leicester have won the Premier League and an FA Cup in the last six years and would love to add a first success in this competition since 2000. Wolves, Southampton, Nottingham Forest and League One strugglers Charlton Athletic join them in the next round.

Express Sport provides live coverage of the 2022-23 Carabao Cup quarter-final draw below.

FT: Man City 3-2 Liverpool

Carabao Cup holders Liverpool are OUT.

Manchester City are into the last eight thanks to a 3-2 win, with goals from Erling Haaland, Riyad Mahrez and Nathan Ake at the Etihad.

The Reds twice levelled through Fabio Carvalho and Mohamed Salah but couldn’t equalise a third time.

And then there were two…

City and Liverpool have won all of the last five Carabao Cups between them and eight of the last 11 overall. But either eight-time champions City of record nine-time winners Liverpool will be out come 9.50pm this evening.

And that means there will only be two of the Premier League’s Big Six in the quarters, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham all already out.

Since Middlesbrough’s 2004 triumph, only two non-Big Six teams – Birmingham City (2011) and Swansea City (2013) – have won this competition.

Will Newcastle, Southampton, Wolves, Leicester, Charlton or Nottingham Forest upset the odds this year?

Fourth round results so far

Blackburn 1-4 Nottingham Forest

Newcastle 1-0 Bournemouth

Southampton 2-1 Lincoln City

Wolves 2-0 Gillingham

MK Dons 0-3 Leicester

Charlton 0-0 Brighton (4-3 on pens)

Manchester United 2-0 Burnley
