Carabao Cup draw LIVE as Chelsea, Tottenham and Wrexham to learn ties
English Football League teams will be hoping for a glamour tie against Chelsea or Tottenham as the two Premier League ‘Big Six’ clubs enter into the Carabao Cup second-round draw. The Blues and Spurs will not play in Europe this season and so, in a rare occasion, enter into the second round of the tournament.
Southampton and Watford were among the early scalps on Tuesday night. Eight Championship clubs all dropped out in the first round with the Saints, who reached last season’s semi-finals, thrashed 3-1 by League Two’s Gillingham.
Hull also lost to League Two’s Doncaster with Millwall battered 4-0 by Reading. Stevenage and Salford defeated Watford and Preston on penalties, just as Crewe saw off Sunderland on spot-kicks.
Wrexham, back in the EFL after a lengthy absence, overcame Wigan Athletic on penalties and are into the second round. They had not played in this competition since 2007 before last night.
The Red Dragons could get an exciting draw with 13 Premier League sides into the pot including Chelsea and Spurs.
