Carabao Cup draw in full as Leeds, Leicester and Wrexham discover opponents

Football Digest: Kovacic’s Man City move makes sense for all

EFL clubs have discovered their first-round opponents in the Carabao Cup after the draw was made on Thursday, 22 June. No Premier League clubs were involved, but three relegated teams in Leeds, Leicester and Southampton all featured having dropped down into the Championship.

Manchester United are the current holders after defeating Newcastle at Wembley following a dramatic penalty shoot-out, as teams drawn today will be hoping they can upset the odds and make it to the final – in a competition that has provided many surprises over the years.

Leeds need to hire a new head coach after Sam Allardyce left following their relegation, as their next appointment will take on Shrewsbury Town at Elland Road.

Leicester will face Burton as new boss Enzo Maresca will hope not just to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking but also provide a cup journey, while Southampton travel to Gillingham and Wrexham’s Hollywood owners discovered their opponent as the Welsh side returned to the competition.
