Mexican boxing champion Canelo Alvarez was left furious after being mocked by a fake Lionel Messi image on social media as the Mexico shirt row rumbles on.

Messi scored for Argentina in their vital 2-0 win over Mexico on Sunday to keep his nation’s World Cup dream alive after a disaster start to their campaign against Saudi Arabia.

A fake Lionel Messi account posted a picture of a wooden stick poking a Mexico shirt on the floor, despite clearly not being the PSG forward, Canelo still reacted furiously to the image shared across social media.

The super middleweight champion took to Twitter to post: ‘hdp,’ a Spanish anagram of ‘hijo de puta’, which translates to ‘son of a b**ch’.

His outburst steamed from a response from the fake account stating, ‘Messi is bigger than Mexico’, after Canelo originally tweeted: ‘What happens with me, that I am a real person, I do not give bl**jobs, whether they like it or not, it is what there is.’

This is the latest of an ongoing saga since the initial incident on Sunday that left the 32-year-old shocked over Messi’s action in the changing room on Sunday.

Several players including Messi were jumping around in celebration, but what made Alvarez angry is when the PSG forward took off his boots, he appeared to kick a Mexican jersey on the floor after the final whistle.

Canelo threatened Messi on Twitter for his disrespectful actions after his side celebrated their victory in the group-stages at the World Cup.

‘Did you guys see Messi cleaning the floor with our jersey and flag,’ Alvarez tweeted.

‘He better pray to God that I don’t find him.

‘Just like I respect Argentina, he has to respect Mexico!

‘I’m not talking about the country as a whole, just about the bulls**t that Messi did.’

Former Argentina and Manchester City star Sergio Aguero tried to pacify Alvarez by replying to the boxer.

Aguero took to Twitter to defend Messi, writing: ‘Mr. Canelo, don’t look for excuses or problems, surely you don’t know about football and what happens in a locker room.

Alvarez called Aguero a ‘hypocrite’ and a ‘b******’

‘The shirts are always on the floor after games due to sweat, and then if you see well, he makes the movement to remove the boot and accidentally hits it.’

But the four-weight champion fighter responded was not to be deterred, firing back with: ‘You too, b******? You used to write me, “oh, oh, Canelo”, and now you’re crying. Don’t be a hypocrite, b******.’

You’d imagine this will be the end of the saga, unless more fans decide to continue to mock Canelo.
