Cameroon have suffered a significant blow ahead of their crunch World Cup clash against Serbia, with Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana removed from the squad due to disciplinary reasons. Rigobert Song has made a huge decision for the must-win Group G match, as both countries battle to stay in the winter tournament.
Around an hour before Cameroon face Serbia at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah, multiple reports confirmed Onana’s absence. And it would appear that Song has taken a stand on the Inter ace’s attitude by removing him from contention altogether.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Onana told the Cameroon boss during a private discussion that he didn’t agree with the style of goalkeeper he wanted him to undertake. Song wants the 26-year-old to be more ‘traditional’, but he has no intention to change his style, and the situation has been described as ‘tense’.
COPE report that Onana isn’t just out of Cameroon’s squad against Serbia, but has left the World Cup after the spat. Samuel Eto’o attempted to mediate the row, but the No 1 deemed the issue ‘irreversible’ and has decided to step away from international duty in Qatar.
