Burton tease Peter Crouch return as legend holds up shirt with name and number
Peter Crouch has teased a return to football after he posed with a Burton Albion shirt that went viral on social media.
Crouch, who hung up his boots in 2019 with Burnley, was snapped the Pirelli Stadium holding a Burton shirt with his name and No.15 on the back. Burton, who tweeted the snap, captioned the picture: "A big return… @PeterCrouch 09.10.23 #BAFC #BackStronger!"
And football fans were quick to react to the news that Crouch could be returning to the beautiful game on Twitter, now known as X. One fan joked: "Imagine going to Burton away and 42-year-old Crouch is doing the robot celebration against your club. I’d stop going!"

"It would be so so so Cambridge United to lose on Monday to a goal from a 42 year old retired footballer," a second said. And another added: "Pre show podcast? Ball boy? Sporting director? Has to be anything but playing football.."
However, eagle-eyed fans quickly realised there was more than meets the eye with the snap, with Burton already having a No.15 – Bez Lubala.

Crouch retired in 2019, after he spent one season with Burnley. Speaking after retiring he said: "The time has come refer to myself as a 'former footballer'; this incredible journey I have been on since I was 16 is over. My ambition was to play until I was 40, so it is scary saying the word 'retirement'…
"I will be 39 in January but I am physically fit and could have carried on. What I didn't want to be was someone who was thrown on to have balls smashed up to them."
Crouch has since dived into numerous projects, including his successful podcast: "That Peter Crouch Podcast".
