Burnley make an enquiry for Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke

Burnley make an enquiry for Christian Benteke as Sean Dyche desperately seeks reinforcements after losing Chris Wood to relegation rivals Newcastle… but Crystal Palace put a £12m price tag on the Belgian striker

  • Christian Benteke will only leave Crystal Palace if £12m valuation is met
  • Burnley are exploring options to replace Chris Wood who joined Newcastle
  • The Belgium international has featured 22 times for the Eagles this season
  • Striker will enter the final year of his contract at the end of the season

Crystal Palace have placed a £12million valuation on Christian Benteke following an enquiry from Burnley.

Clarets boss Sean Dyche is on the look out for striking reinforcements following the shock departure of Chris Wood to Newcastle for £25million last week.

And Burnley have identified Benteke as a priority target this month as they look to sign a replacement for Wood ahead of the transfer window.

Importantly, Sportsmail understands that Palace are open to selling Benteke this month – but want a fee of between £10million-£12million.

Burnley are targeting Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke as a Chris Wood replacement

Benteke has been a regular for Patrick Vieira’s side this season, making 22 appearance for the Eagles in all competitions this season.

The Belgium international enters the final year of his contract at the end of the season and that could be playing a part in Palace’s willingness to sell the 31-year-old this month given the emerging prospect of losing the striker for nothing at the end of next season.

The striker was left out of the Eagles starting line-up on Friday evening when they drew with fierce rivals Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.

Chris Wood left Burnley to join Newcastle with the Clarets now searching for a replacement

Burnley are exploring all available options they possibly can to replace target man Wood as they bid to avoid relegation.

Wood was in the final 18 months of his contract at Burnley having joined for £15m from Leeds in 2017. He had scored 53 goals in 165 appearances.

Burnley are currently bottom of the Premier League on 11 points, one point behind Newcastle United, and three points adrift of fourth-bottom Watford.

The Clarets will need to bring in a striker to help reinforce their chances of survival this season.
