Bruno Fernandes vents Man Utd frustrations as tunnel footage emerges
Manchester United's wait for a trophy under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer continues after Europa League final heartache at the hands of Unai Emery's Villarreal.
The 'Yellow Submarine' won a remarkable penalty shootout 11-10, which saw all twenty outfield players convert their spot-kicks before United shot-stopper David de Gea had his effort saved, ensuring United's four-year wait for a trophy will run into next season.
Bruno Fernandes took the defeat harder than most, pictured in tears come the end of the game as their opponents wheeled away in celebration.
Though Edinson Cavani bagged yet another goal on the night, United actually found themselves 1-0 down at the interval and new tunnel camera footage has picked up Fernandes expressing his frustration with some of the officiating directly to the referees as the players made their way back to the pitch.
Fernandes made his point with Solksjaer's half-time team talk presumably still ringing in his ears, with Clement Turpin, the man with the whistle, baring the brunt of the midfielder's anger.
One of the United star's many complaints was over how long a particular VAR decision review took, before accusing Villarreal defender Juan Foyth of time-wasting after he was hit in the head by the knee of Paul Pogba.
The former Sporting midfielder moaned, "One time he stays down one minute. After again and then after the goal. You wait one time for VAR. Three minutes?"
Defeat for United meant that what was a fairly impressive season, in which they finished second in the Premier League comfortably securing Champions League football next year, ended on a sour note.
After the game, Fernandes took to social media to issue a positive rally cry in the wake of the defeat, writing: "We win together and we lose together.
"When someone fails we all fail, when someone scores we all score, when someone does a save we all save… Always UNITED."
Fernandes captained United on the night in the absence of the injured Harry Maguire, and his social media sentiments were echoed by teammate Paul Pogba, who said: "I needed some days to reflect after the match.
"Of course, very upset not to win the final but we're a team that will look forward with our heads held high.
"Thank you to all of the fans for the support. We will come back stronger."
