Bruno Fernandes responds to Solskjaer criticism after Man Utd beat Aston Villa
Manchester United are level on points with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table – but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still saw room for improvement after beating Aston Villa.
The Red Devils were left clinging on for a 2-1 win at Old Trafford with Eric Bailly pulling off an impressive block in the dying seconds.
After the game, Solskjaer pointed to United’s need to learn to close out games with greater ease – and he had the full support of match winner Bruno Fernandes.
Solskjaer told Sky Sports: “To be fair, I didn’t enjoy the last 10 minutes too much because I think we should’ve seen the game out in a better way.
“It seemed like it was a Cup final or a last game of the season.
“We need to learn to play out games better when we’re in the lead. We’ve shown that when we’re chasing a goal we’re capable of doing that.”
In response to Solskjaer’s comments, Fernandes told BBC: "I agree with that because against Leicester we conceded a goal at the end.
“The only mistake we made today was we had more chances to score again and maybe we have to close the game more quickly. We don't score the third one and they press us until the end.

"We knew they [Aston Villa] play really well. They have qualities and are doing well in the league.
“We did well and created more chances than before but scored less goals. The most important thing is three points though.”
United fans already have one eye on a huge clash with Liverpool on January 17 at Anfield.
But Solskjaer insists he has no time yet to think about a game being earmarked as a huge moment in the title race.
“I’ve not started thinking about that,” he said.
“We’ve got a big game here on Wednesday against City at Old Trafford.
“There are so many games you can’t think four days ahead really because there’s always something just around the corner.”
