Bruno Fernandes makes honest admission after Man Utd suffer derby defeat

Bruno Fernandes has made an honest admission following Manchester United’s disappointing 2-0 derby defeat to Manchester City.

An own goal from United centre-back Eric Bailly followed by a toe-poked effort from Bernardo Silva on the stroke of half time gave City a comfortable victory at Old Trafford and opened the gap between the two sides to six points in the league table.

United managed to stem City’s goalscoring threat after a change of formation at the start of the second half, but the difference in quality between the two sides remained clear to see.

City could have easily won by a bigger distance, and perhaps would have if it wasn’t for the first-half heroics of David de Gea to keep out Gabriel Jesus, Kyle Walker and an accidental strike from United centre-back Victor Lindelof.

The result leaves the Red Devils with just one win in their last six Premier League matches, with the pressure continuing to build on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s position at the club.

Speaking after the match, Fernandes, who was singled out for his role in City’s first goal, admitted that something needed to change at United in order to bridge the gap in quality between them and the top teams.

‘It’s difficult to say something now but it was not good enough from us,’ he said.

‘We have to change, this has happened many times already and we are at the beginning of the season.

‘We have to speak less and do more. We have to do better. They showed us today we are not at the same level.’
