Brighton are hoping to sign Liverpool midfielder James Milner on a free transfer when his contract expires this summer, according to reports.
Jurgen Klopp is eager to keep the veteran at Anfield as he plots to rebuild Liverpool’s midfield in the upcoming transfer window, but no contractual agreement between Milner and the Red chiefs has yet been made.
Milner has enjoyed a fruitful eight-year spell at Anfield, chalking up 326 appearances and winning a Champions League, Premier League, Club World Cup, FA Cup and League Cup with the club.
Having yet to sign a new deal, the 37-year-old could join fellow Reds stalwart Roberto Firmino, who told Klopp he would be leaving Anfield this summer, out the exit door.
The Seagulls are bidding to qualify for the Europa League ahead of next campaign and will be eager to bolster Roberto De Zerbi’s squad with reinforcements.

Although Premier League clubs cannot approach the player until the summer, Brighton have held internal talks and plan to launch a swoop for the former England international at the end of the season, according to The Athletic.
It is understood Brighton are interested in Milner because of the experience and know-how he would bring to the team, in particular if they qualify for Europe.
The south coast club sit eighth in the Premier League with three games in hand over fifth-placed Tottenham and sixth-placed Aston Villa.
Milner’s Liverpool sit a place above the Seagulls having played just two games more, meaning Europa League qualification is still in Brighton’s hands.

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany is believed to be interested in his former team-mate as well
Burnley are also reportedly interested in pursuing Milner at the end of the season and plan to rival Brighton for his signature.
Their manager Vincent Kompany, who played alongside the midfielder at Manchester City, earned the Clarets promotion during his first campaign at the club.
The Belgian helped Burnley become the fastest ever promoted team in Championship history and will finish with over 100 points in the table if the Clarets beat Bristol City and Cardiff in their last two matches.
Meanwhile, Brighton take on Wolves at the Amex Stadium on Saturday while their Europe-chasing rivals Liverpool are preparing to face Spurs ahead of Sunday’s clash at Anfield.
