Brentford and Tottenham played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Gtech Community Stadium and we caught a first glimpse of a Harry Kane-less Spurs.
Cristian Romero opened the scoring 11 minutes in before error and misfortune led to Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa fired Brentford into the kead.
A sumptuous strike from Emerson Royal rounded off a scintillating first half and we learned a lot here – the future of Eric Dier, perhaps, and what Guglielmo Vicario has to work on as he seeks to fill the gloves of Hugo Lloris.
There was some inevitable mockery surrounding Kane’s move to Spurs here, but they didn’t look short of firepower without him.

Kick-off delayed due to water troubles
Kick-off was delayed by seven minutes as there was no running water at the Brentford Community Stadium.
There was talk of the issue threatening the fixture if not fixed – and some supporters did cheekily suggest we could simply use the tears of Tottenham’s fans instead after losing Harry Kane – but thankfully the game went ahead. Certainly there was no goal drought in the first half, with Emerson’s strike the best of the bunch.
Yves Bissouma shining bright
Yves Bissouma looked like his old Brighton self in Tottenham’s midfield. ‘Ange-ball’ suits the 26-year-old. If he can put in more performances such as this, Antonio Conte’s overlooking of him last season will seem criminal.

Eric Dier’s days at Spurs looking numbered?
Tottenham are ready to sell Eric Dier. The England defender is entering the final year of his contract and was omitted from Ange Postecoglou’s squad here. Dier, 29, is the last of the old guard still standing but Spurs will listen to offers this summer as they look to trim their squad.
Guglielmo Vicario’s debut not one to remember
Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario did not fill you with confidence on this debut. It made for nervous viewing when he passed out from the back or when charging into rash challenges.

Nice gesture before kick-off as Tottenham’s new captain Heung-min Son led the team to the away end to do their pre-match huddle in front of them. Before Brentford’s supporters serenaded them with: ‘He left because you’re s***.’
