Brentford 2-1 Forest: Dasilva's last-gasp winner seals Bees comeback

Brentford 2-1 Nottingham Forest: Josh Dasilva scores controversial late winner as the Bees come from behind to dent Forest’s hopes of Premier League survival

  • Birthday boy Danilo first broke the deadlock moments before half time
  • Ivan Toney handed Brentford a late equaliser before Josh Dasilva’s late winner
  • Re-live the action from Brentford’s win as well as Brighton’s thrashing of Wolves

Josh Dasilva completed a comeback win for Brentford in injury-time to deal a severe relegation blow to Nottingham Forest.

Leading by a goal from Brazilian midfielder Danilo on his 22nd birthday, Forest’s dream of only a second away win of the season imploded in spectacular fashion in the final 10 minutes.

Ivan Toney’s low free-kick was tipped onto the post by Navas only for the ball to then hit the Costa Rican again and trickle over the line for an equaliser.

Then in added time, Dasilva’s strike after 94 minutes proved the winner after a long VAR check decided Toney was not in an offside position standing in front of Navas.

Defeat means Forest – who have only won once away all season – will be in the bottom three by the end of the current matchday fixture list with rivals Leicester and Everton facing each other on Monday.

The home result marked the first time this season that the Bees have come from behind to win

Steve Cooper’s side won their first game in 11 against Brighton in midweek had lost Neco Williams with a fractured jaw.

Joe Worrall replaced him but there was still no place in the 18 for Jonjo Shelvey who had been dropped for the previous two games for disciplinary reasons.

Brentford edged a quiet first half with Navas saving from Bryan Mbuemo and Ethan Pinnock but Forest stayed resolute and snatched the lead just before the interval with their first shot on target.

A long throw was half-cleared to Morgan Gibbs-White on the edge of the box whose drive deflected off the unfortunate Mee into the path of Danilo.

He converted first-time to make it goals in consecutive games for the £18million midfielder signed from Palmeiras in January.

Keylor Navas failed to make the important saves necessary to keep Forest from conceding

Cooper brought on the energetic Andrew Ayew and midfield tiger Cheikh Kouyate to try and hold onto the advantage but it was Thomas Frank’s changes for Brentford that had the bigger impact.

After 82 minutes, the previously anonymous Toney took responsibility for a free-kick 25 yards from goal and drilled it low towards the bottom right-hand corner.

A diving Navas reached the ball but played an unwitting one-two with the post and it squeezed in.

The Bees, enjoying a fabulous season in the top of the table, sensed a winner. One sub Frank Onyeka was denied by a wonderful reflex stop by Navas but the former Real Madrid and PSG star was left helpless by Dasilva’s strike, the Brentford player making a bit impact after replacing Rico Henry after an hour.
