Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers displayed the effects of the pressure mounting on his job after Saturday’s uninspiring 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace. Rodgers terminated a media huddle after labelling a question on his Foxes future ‘disrespectful’ and ‘disgraceful’.
Leicester are slumped in 19th in the Premier League, level with rock-bottom Nottingham Forest on five points after 10 games, and their only triumph so far came against Steve Cooper’s side at the start of October. The lacklustre stalemate against Palace confirmed the club’s worst points tally after 10 league outings since 1983/84.
After his post-match press conference, Rodgers welcomed a media huddle in a King Power Stadium corridor. But things turned sour when he was asked about speculation among Leicester fans that he’s too expensive to sack due to the size of his contract.
After starting the gathering in a playful mood, joking that it was fitting that his back was against the wall, his persona quickly turned. According to The Telegraph, he said: “I have read on the news what I am supposed to be on, and I know for sure that is a total fabrication.”

The Northern Irishman was pressed for an elaboration on the salary figure he described as false. And after a reporter suggested the £10m-a-year wage he is widely rumoured to be earning, Rodgers snapped before storming away from questioning.
“It’s nowhere near,” Rodgers explained. “I actually think it is a disrespectful question, very disrespectful. I never asked you how much money you are on or whether there is any blockage in your role from your owners. I don’t think you need to worry about my wages. If there is a stumbling block in anything, you need to ask the owners that. It’s a disgraceful question.”
Leicester have six crucial games to play before the Premier League takes a one-month break for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Rodgers will view Leeds United’s visit on Thursday as a must-win encounter before his side round off October with games against Wolves and Manchester City.
League clashes with Everton and West Ham United then fall either side of a Carabao Cup third-round meeting with Newport County before no more club games are played until Boxing Day. Leicester will want nothing less than to be in the same perilous position at that stage of the campaign, but Rodgers is at boiling point and is running out of time for rescue.
