Brendan Rodgers on Wesley Fofana’s stunning form that has benched Caglar Soyuncu

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Caglar Soyuncu will start for Leicester at Brentford on Sunday after being sidelined by Wesley Fofana's stunning form.

French centre-back Fofana has been a revelation at the Foxes since a £30million switch from St Etienne in October.

His superb display in the 2-0 midweek win over Chelsea left pundit Jamie Redknapp tipping Fofana, 20, to generate a future world record fee for a defender.

Fofana's impact has limited Turkish stopper Soyuncu, 24, to just sub appearances in the Premier League since coming back from injury in December.

But Rodgers has confirmed the defender, linked with Barcelona last year, will get a chance at in-form Championship high-fliers Brentford in the FA Cup.

Rodgers, whose side are third in the top-flight, said: “When Cags has come in, he has done exceptionally well.

“He will play at the weekend. He is ready to perform.

“But to play with that patience , anticipation and quality against Chelsea shows you the level Wesley is at.

“That is what having a competitive squad is about.

“If you want to be in a top squad, it can't be if you are not playing every single game you are not happy.

“Any manager will always speak with the player to recognise and acknowledge for them it is difficult.

“But they also have respect they can't play every game.

“You have to be patient.”

Rodgers also said on Friday that top scorer Jamie Vardy will be out for two weeks with a minor hernia operation.

He added: “It will leave him still with a good part of the season where he can be really influential for us.”

Rodgers confirmed he is after a new attacking midfielder as Dennis Praet is out injured until April but suggested Christian Eriksen is too expensive for Leicester.

He said: “In this window if we can bring in an attacking midfielder that would be fantastic.

“But some will be out of our price range and we won't be able to do it.”
