Brazil attacking midfielder Lucas Paqueta has responded to fierce criticism from Roy Keane after the World Cup pundit declared he was “not happy” with some of the dancing celebrations on show against South Korea. The former Manchester United captain, who is working for ITV throughout the tournament, felt the Selecao went overboard every time they found the net in their 4-1 demolition of South Korea.

As a notoriously hard-nosed, old-school player, Keane was left angered by the antics as Brazil put their own stamp on the knockout stages after steaming into a four-goal lead inside the opening 36 minutes.

West Ham’s mega-money signing was among the Brazil stars to dance when he found the net with a thumping volley after meeting Vinicius Jr’s floated cross into the area.

Now Paqueta has hit back at Keane’s comments by claiming Brazil will continue to celebrate goals as they please…

The former AC Milan and Lyon attacker said: “The dance is a representation of our joy after scoring a goal. We don’t do it to disrespect anyone, we don’t do it in front of our opponents.

“We all get together to celebrate. If they don’t like it, there’s not much to say.

“We’ll keep scoring goals and keep dancing. This is a group that is happy to score, to get the victory and the goals.”

Keane raised the point during ITV’s coverage of the spectacle, stating following a replay of Vinicius’ opening goal: “Fantastic finish by Vinicius, great start to the game. But I’ve never seen so much dancing,’ fumed ITV pundit Keane

“I can’t believe what I’m watching, I can’t believe what I’m watching, it’s like watching Strictly [Come Dancing].”

After Brazil made it 3-0 with a wonderful team goal that was started and finished by Richarlison, the Tottenham striker ran over to the bench before doing his trademark pigeon dance with manager Tite.

It’s safe to say the antics did not please Keane in the slightest: “I don’t like this. People say it’s their culture. But I think that’s really disrespecting the opposition.

“It’s four goals, and they are doing it every time.

“I don’t mind so much the first jig, it’s the one after that, and the manager getting involved. I’m not happy about it. I don’t think it’s good at all.”

Graeme Souness was seemingly in agreement, adding: “It’s only a matter of time before someone goes right through one of these Brazilians.”

Brazil head coach Tite has since defended his antics, claiming he was simply celebrating a joyous moment and goal with his team.

He said: “I have to be careful (doing the dances), because there are always the malicious ones who say it’s disrespectful. It is a display of happiness.”

World Cup favourites now face Croatia in the quarter-finals on Friday in Qatar.
