Brady slams ‘worst call in 30 years’ with West Ham still fuming at Chelsea farce

Karren Brady has slammed VAR and the Premier League for the "worst call in 30 years" after her West Ham team were denied an equaliser against Chelsea last week.

The Hammers vice-chairman took to her column to lay into the Premier League and VAR after Jarrod Bowen was controversially seen to have fouled Edouard Mendy in the lead-up to the disallowed goal that left football fans around the globe scratching their heads.

As Bowen tried to slot the ball home in the 90th minute, the winger looked to have caught the Chelsea keeper before Maxwell Cornet collected the ball and hammered home before Andy Madley was asked to review the goal on the pitchside monitor.

The goal would have meant West Ham had fought back from a goal down for the second time in the match, and now Brady has launched an attack on officials, claiming that West Ham lost a point due to their "incompetence".

Brady wrote in The Sun: "The decision to disallow our goal on Saturday at Chelsea was one of the worst I have seen in over 30 years in football. It was, in the words of Alan Shearer, a 'terrible, disgraceful decision, ridiculous'.

"Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said the verdict, reached after nearly four minutes of VAR confusion, was correct. And a lot of good it did him. Truth is that VAR is below an acceptable standard, is bringing the league into disrepute and is financially damaging for clubs."

Following the incident at Stamford Bridge where players and fans were forced to wait four minutes before a decision was made, the decision was acknowledged as a mistake by the referees' body PGMOL.
