Joshua King is in line for a deadline day move from Bournemouth to Southampton with Shane Long heading in the other direction.

According to the Athletic, the Norwegian striker’s club engaged in talks with Saints about the move over the weekend.

Joshua King could be set for a deadline day move from Bournemouth to Southampton with Shane Long heading in the other direction on loan with an option to buy

King has been one of Bournemouth’s best players in recent years with a solid goals record

They report that a deal could be struck between the Championship and Premier League side in the final hours of deadline day.

King’s output for Bournemouth has been superb in the top flight before they were relegated under Eddie Howe last season.

He has netted 48 goals in 161 Premier League games with 17 in 51 on the international stage. It is understood that a ‘small fee’ would be involved in addition to the Long move.

The Republic of Ireland striker would join Bournemouth initially on loan with the option to make the deal permanent.

The Norwegian needs to be convinced that Southampton is the right club for him

The major obstacles remaining are King’s need to be convinced that St Mary’s is the right destination for him with personal terms still to be ironed out.

Ralph Hasenhuttl will have to convince the 29-year-old that Southampton is the right club for him with both Everton and Fulham maintaining an interest.

King will become a free agent this summer so could have more options on the table if he waits until the end of the season before selecting his next club.
