Bournemouth fans boo wrong Newcastle player and give him unique type of apology
Bournemouth fans were left red-faced when they erupted into boos for the wrong player and painfully had to apologise.
The Cherries hosted high-flying Newcastle on Saturday in what turned out to be a scrappy 1-1 draw, but when Bournemouth fans thought they'd spotted Ryan Fraser they hurled boos towards the ex-Bournemouth player. However, the fans were then forced to embarrassingly cheer the player on when they released it was in fact Matt Ritchie.
Ryan Fraser left the south coast side abruptly back in 2020 during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic when the winger refused to put pen to paper for a short-term contract extension which would have meant he could play rearranged fixtures that had been delayed.

When he turned the contract down, fans were furious, with the winger heading north to Newcastle after Bournemouth dropped into the Championship at the eventual end of the season.
Despite neither winger making it onto the pitch on Saturday, home fans thought they spotted Fraser warming up, but were forced to cheer him on when they realised it was Ritchie warming up.

Ritchie left on much better terms after helping the Cherries climb up to the Premier League before departing for Newcastle back in 2016 as the Magpies fought their way back from the Championship under Rafa Benitez.
@alexdeutsch tweeted: "Not AFCB fans booing Ritchie because they thought it was Fraser and then now having to overly appreciate him as a sorry. Incredible."
@SamuelJRoots said: "Hero’s reception, the king returned and got the ovation he deserves. Should have won it, highlight was north end thinking Richie was Fraser and starting to boo. Crowd like that and we might have a chance, onto Wolves away."
