Borussia Dortmund name their asking price for Arsenal target Julian Brandt
Borussia Dortmund are prepared to listen to offers for Arsenal target Julian Brandt in the January window though the Gunners may struggle to stump up the cash required.
Mikel Arteta’s side have enjoyed an upturn in form and results recently, winning their last three Premier League matches on the spin, though they are still keen to bring in a new, creative playmaker if possible this month.
With Mesut Ozil having been frozen out, the north London side have struggled to create chances on a consistent basis – though youngster Emile Smith Rowe has made a big impact since coming into the side.
Arsenal have been linked with a host of creative, attacking midfielders, notably Norwich City’s Emiliano Buendia, Real Madrid star Isco and Dortmund’s Brandt.
But Norwich are extremely reluctant to let their Argentine maestro leave – particularly while he is driving their promotion push – and will demand a huge price, while Isco is likely to be loaned to another La Liga side.
Brandt, who has been in and out of the Dortmund team this season, has become the most attainable option and according to Football.London Arsenal have sounded out the German club about the possibility of getting a permanent deal done this month.
Despite arriving from Bayer Leverkusen with a big reputation in 2019, Brandt has struggled to consistently affect matches and Dortmund are now prepared to cash in for a fee of €25million (£22.5m).
Dortmund chief Michael Zorc opened the door for Brandt to leave recently, telling SportBild when asked about the midfielder’s future: ‘My years of activity have taught me that I don’t rule anything out at the beginning of a transfer period.’
That £22.5m figure represents less than what Norwich will demand for Buendia – a player who has already proven himself in the Premier League – though could still be too rich for Arsenal, who are more likely to use January to offload players.
William Saliba has already left to join Ligue 1 side Nice on loan, while Sead Kolasinac and Sokratis could also be sold, and Arsenal will need to raise significant funds in order to afford a new playmaker this month.
