Bobby Zamora responds to Chloe Kelly’s ‘Bobby moment’ in Euro 2022 final

After scoring the winner in the most important game in your career, grabbing your first international goal in the meantime to hand England their first international trophy, naturally, you think of Bobby Zamora, right?

If that has set you back, that is exactly what was racing through Chloe Kelly's mind when she bagged the all-important goal against Germany in the Women's European Championship final on Sunday.

In front of nearly 90,000 people at Wembley, the Manchester City forward came off the bench to score in extra-time to blow the roof off, taking her shirt off in the process, to send a nation into celebration.

After the match, the 24-year-old gave a number of post-match interviews with everyone keen to speak to the woman of the moment and she spoke about her last visit to Wembley.

She said: "The last time I came to Wembley I watched QPR in the play-off final and there was the Bobby Zamora moment. And I said 'there's going to be a Bobby Zamora moment and it's going to be me today,' and it was! So unbelievable."

Zamora replied on Twitter: "Ha ha ha amazing it’s a bit bigger than my goal I think." It might be hard to argue, Kelly's goal gave England's women their first-ever international trophy against Germany, who had never lost a final.

For Kelly, to score at Wembley was a particularly special moment having grown up as a QPR fan. The striker was referring to the 2014 Championship play-off final between QPR and Derby where Zamora scored with almost the last kick of the game to send the Loftus Road outfit into the Premier League.

And while the Ealing-born ace would have been just 14 at the time, she would have celebrated wildly. If they were as manic as the ones on Sunday night is unlikely, though, as the rest of the country applauded as the victorious Lionesses paraded the Euro 2022 trophy through London.
