Billionaire sports team owner is worth 18 times more than Man Utd’s Glazers
The Glazers’ wealth would still be dwarfed by the owner of a cricket team – even if they sell Manchester United this summer.
Billionaires Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe remain the leading contenders to take over at Old Trafford but, to the frustration of United fans, the process is dragging on. According to respected business publication Forbes, the Glazers are worth around £3.77billion, a figure that will swell if they get the £6billion they are seeking for United.
However, that is loose change compared to the wealth of Indian multi-billionaire Mukesh Ambani, who owns an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, the Mumbai Indians.
Ambani is the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries, India's most valuable company by market value, which has interests in petrochemicals, oil and gas, telecom and retail.

Given his extreme wealth, his ownership of an IPL side in cricket-obsessed India should come as no surprise. The Indians are five-time IPL champions and just missed out on a place in the final in the latest edition of the T20 tournament.
Ambani is also a football fan and is the founder of the Indian Super League. In 2012, Forbes named him as one of the richest sports club owners in the world.
