Betfred boss is surprise wedding guest for punter who won gigantic jackpot
Punter Michael Clark had a surprise special guest at his wedding – the bookie who made him a millionaire.
Betfred boss Fred Done turned up as Michael tied the knot with Sherelle Pooley at Newcastle United’s St James’ Park stadium on Thursday.
The beaming groom’s life was changed forever when he scooped £5.4million from a £1.40 online slot game. Michael, 32, said: "It’s brilliant that Fred, who is such a down-to-earth fella, has made all this possible. I was chuffed to bits when he turned up to celebrate our big day. Without him this wouldn’t have been possible."
The punter bagged the bumper win last Christmas playing the King Kong Cashpots, the biggest payout in Betfred’s 56-year history. Pals have dubbed him 'Mickey Millions' – a nickname even the registrar quoted.

He splashed £750,000 on a five-bedroom home with Sherelle and their three children after living on a council estate.
Michael added: "There’s no denying it – it’s been absolutely manic. I’ve taken proper advice about investing my money, but as a family we are determined to enjoy ourselves.

Speaking about his decision to stage the wedding at St James' Park, Toon-mad Michael said: "I chose the venue for the wedding, while Sherelle chose everything else. She always wanted a big wedding and she certainly had that."
The couple have been touring the world since their jackpot win, visiting Dubai, the Maldives and various spots around Europe, and Michael has even replaced Sherelle’s engagement ring with one costing £7,000, and has splashed out on diamond earrings, a necklace and a bracelet for her 28th birthday.
Despite their newfound riches however, Michael says he still loves his old comforts. "I still enjoy a Greggs bacon sandwich for breakfast," he admitted, "while KFC remains a special place for us as it’s where Sherelle and I met 11 years ago."
"I go for a Zinger Stacker, but she always has a fillet with no sauce. That’s what she had when I used to work at KFC and she tracked me down to another branch and we went for a coffee. At least I know she’s not after my money!"
