Ben White speaks out for first time following England World Cup row

Arsenal defender Ben White has broken his silence following his mysterious departure from England's World Cup camp.

The 25-year-old flew home from Qatar mid-way through the tournament due to 'personal reasons' according to the FA, though it later emerged in a Daily Star Sport exclusive that he'd fallen out with England assistant Steve Holland.

White hadn't been gelling with his team-mates and refused to do his homework on England's opponents, and after coming to blows with Holland in front of the entire squad, the decision was made to send him back to the UK.

The defender, who played no part at the tournament prior to his dismissal, sent a message to Arsenal supporters via the club's Twitter account on Friday thanking them for their "support" after being voted Arsenal Player of the Month.

"Hiya guys. I just wanted to give you a quick message and say thank you so much for voting for me for Player of the Month," White said.

"I really appreciate it and I'm so thankful for the support you've shown me this season and every game."

White will be keen to put his World Cup troubles behind him as he and his Arsenal team-mates aim to keep their first genuine title challenge in years going once club football returns.

The Gunners are five points clear at the top of the Premier League after dropping points in just two of their first 14 matches, with White playing a starring role at right back.

Arsenal face Juventus in one final friendly match on Saturday before welcoming West Ham to the Emirates on Boxing Day.
