Ben Foster gorged on fans’ pizzas and kebabs as Wrexham celebrated promotion
Promotion hero Ben Foster needed just seven games to achieve icon status at Wrexham – and it's clear exactly how much the club's fans love their new No. 1.
After all, is there any greater gesture one can make than to share food off their own plate? Or styrofoam box in Foster's case after he lifted the lid on the smorgasbord of chips, pizza and kebab that fans shared with him after Wrexham's history-making push back up to League Two.
A 3-1 win over Boreham Wood was enough to guarantee the National League title with one game to spare. However, Foster's 97th-minute penalty save in a 3-2 victory over promotion rivals Notts County 12 days prior was his own highlight moment.

And supporters wanted to let the former Manchester United stopper know just how much his contribution meant in the wake of the finest hour the club has witnessed in recent times. The post-promotion celebrations had gone on so long that Foster hadn't had a chance to eat, but the Wrexham faithful came to his rescue.
"So we went walking around Wrexham [after the Boreham Wood win]," Foster explained on his Fozcast podcast. "And the very first person I saw – I was starving at this point, yeah – and there was this lad outside the stadium with this tray of kebab meat and chips.

"And it looked like it was fairly new, he hadn't really eaten much of it. And it had sooo much garlic mayo on top of this, I mean tonnes of it. I looked at it, and he looked at me and said, 'D'you want some?' And I went, 'Yeah, please,' and he literally gave me the whole tray, and that was the last he saw of it!"
Whether or not the supporters in question intended to share his rations with the ex-England keeper, Foster 'completely nailed' his offering. And that was only the first fan to fall victim to Foster's appetite.
"Once I finished that, there was another lad who had more chips, I was eating his chips. And there was a lad talking to me eating a pizza, and I don't even know what he was saying, I was just looking at his pizza thinking, 'That looks unbelievable.' And he must have been watching my eyes 'cus he went, 'D'you want some?'"
Foster proceeded to prove his culinary prowess as he constructed a makeshift calzone, wrapping chips and kebab in pizza like some sort of calorific criminal. It's the kind of concoction that might not get co-owner Ryan Reynolds far preparing for a role, but is completely well-suited for the means of promotion festivities.
Once the dust had settled on Wrexham's rise, Foster explained how Reynolds gifted him a piece of memorabilia from the set of the original Deadpool film as thanks for his contributions. Fans are hoping there will be more opportunities to share grub with Foster in future, with question marks as to whether the formerly retired star will extend his terms with the club for another season.
