Ben Chilwell believes Wesley Fofana has a big future ahead of him at Chelsea, and praised his quick integration into Thomas Tuchel’s plans.
Defender Fofana made his debut for the Blues in their 2-1 home win over West Ham on Saturday after completing a £75million move from Leicester.
Chilwell previously played for Leicester City, but left the club for Chelsea less than two months before Fofana joined the Foxes in October 2020.
Now in the same team at the same time, Chilwell was impressed by the performance of his new 21-year-old colleague, particularly because the French defender had very little time with the squad before being thrown into 90 minutes of action.
Wesley Fofana’s quick integration into the Chelsea team has been hailed by Ben Chilwell
‘Massive kudos to Wes,’ the 25-year-old left-back told talkSPORT after the win. ‘He’s only just come in, he’s trained with us twice.
‘Then he starts today, his first game at Stamford Bridge, it was a brilliant performance by him and many more to come.
‘To come in at such a young age and gel so quickly into the group is massive.
‘He’s gonna have a massive future at our club. I think as well, all the boys that have come in have bought a mentality that they want to win.
‘Everyone here wants to win and you need to bring in players that have that same mentality. Reaching finals and winning finals is what this club’s all about.’
Chilwell scored the first Blues goal in their 2-1 comeback win over West Ham on Saturday
Chilwell scored Chelsea’s first goal in their comeback win against the Hammers, which was sealed by Kai Havertz’s late goal.
Fofana is the third most expensive defender in the history of the sport, behind Harry Maguire and Virgil van Dijk.
He played alongside veteran Thiago Silva and another new Chelsea signing, Kalidou Koulibaly.
Chelsea’s next challenge is a trip to Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday night.
