BBC Sport presenter Mark Chapman seemingly aimed a sly dig at ITV pundit Roy Keane over his criticism of Brazil’s Samba-style dance routines during their 4-1 win against South Korea in the World Cup last 16. Keane slammed the Selecao Canarinho’s trademark dancing celebrations at half-time.
When asked for his thoughts on Tite and his squad’s joyous reaction as Brazil cruised into the quarter-finals, Keane ripped into their ‘disrespectful’ behaviour. “It’s like watching Strictly. I can’t believe what I’m watching. I don’t like this. I think it’s disrespecting the opposition,” the candid Irishman ranted.
“It’s four [goals], and they’re doing it every time. I don’t mind the first kind of little jig – whatever they’re doing – but they’re still doing it after that, and then the manager getting involved with it. I’m not happy with it. I don’t think it’s very good at all.”
Ahead of Brazil’s quarter against Croatia this evening, Chapman introduced the clash at the programme’s opening by saying: “It’s Brazil vs Croatia for a place in the semi-finals of the World Cup. South America vs Europe, the five-time winners facing the 2018 finalists… Enough to make you want to dance!”

Keane’s criticism of Brazil’s dancing didn’t stop on ITV, continuing his assessment of the celebrations while talking to Sky Bet earlier this week. He particularly slated manager Tite for joining in with Richarlison’s pigeon celebration on the sidelines. “I love watching Brazil and what they stand for,” Keane explained.
“I don’t get how a manager can dance when the game is still going ahead. He’s got an opposition manager 10 yards away from him. You’ve got to watch that. The game is about respect. Dance afterwards in the dressing room, or in the nightclub, that’s not a problem.

“But why is it okay for Brazil to do it during the game? If everyone has a dance after a goal, the games will be going on for three days. Do you know what they should start doing… when coaches do their pro licence, show the managers how to do a little dance on the sideline, forget tactics.”
Brazil have had plenty of time since the South Korea win to master their dance moves in preparation for their next World Cup goals.
And Keane will likely have more to say on the matter if they celebrate in the same ilk against Croatia and beyond as they edge closer to a sixth crown.
