Bayern Munich drop Dayot Upamecano bombshell in transfer blow to Man Utd and Liverpool
Transfer update: Latest on Odegaard, Lingard and Rose
Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have been linked with a move for RB Leipzig’s highly rated centre-back Dayot Upamecano in the past. However, Bayern Munich now appear to be in pole position to land the Frenchman after comments from CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that the club are actively pursuing a move for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.
Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have been linked with the centre-back in the past.
However, Bayern now appear to be in pole position to land Upamecano from their Bundesliga rivals after Rummenigge’s direct approach.
The German giants are thought to be looking for a potential replacement for David Alaba, who has refused to sign a new contract at Bayern despite receiving several offers.
Allianz Arena chief Rummenigge admitted that a move for Upamecano was unlikely until the summer, but all but confirmed that they would be looking to sign the Frenchman as long as finances allowed.
Rummenigge told Bild Live: “We will of course deal with it, not only with this player, but in principle, positions where we want to do and have to do something.”
“In the time of Corona, the money situation is also an important factor.”

Jerome Boateng’s contract also expires at the end of the season, and the experienced German has become an important part of Hans-Dieter Flick’s side.
And Rummenigge appeared to admit that it was possible the 32-year-old could be in line for a new deal.
“Jerome is playing an important role again. The coach is happy with him,” he said.
“Accordingly, you will have to ask him this question yourself if you speak to him.”
Rummenigge also spoke out about any rumours that Bayern are looking to sell Leroy Sane just six months after signing the former Manchester City winger.
“He has a five-year contract,” he said. “That would be nonsense. We need this type of player.
“Of course he will stay with Bayern. And I am convinced: He will be a success here.”
