Barcelona’s ‘richest player’ misses out on selection for their pre-season tour

Barcelona’s richest star Martin Braithwaite has been snubbed from selection for the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.

The Catalans jetted off to the US on Saturday ahead of big clashes with Real Madrid, Juventus and MLS side Inter Miami. Among those called up for the tour were new signings Raphinha, Pablo Torre, Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie.

But others like Samuel Umtiti, Riqui Puig and Oscar Mingueza were not so lucky. And the club also snubbed its richest player in 31-year-old striker Braithwaite, who was signed in a shock £15million move from Leganes back in 2020.

The Dane has failed to make an impression at Camp Nou since his arrival midway through the 2019/20 campaign. He has netted just 10 goals in 58 appearances and had his playing time limited to just five appearances last season.

Yet the former Middlesbrough flop’s career was healthy to say the least when it came to his financial earnings off the pitch. Braithwaite currently earns around £4million per season at Barcelona – and his yearly salary at the Camp barely touches his earnings and net worth away from the pitch.

Who do you think is Barcelona's worst signing of the past five years? Let us know in the comments section.

The Danish international boasts an impressive portfolio of investments within the real estate, fashion and the restaurant industries. So much so that only Lionel Messi earned more than him at Barcelona in 2020, according to Forbes.

Since the Argentine’s departure, Braithwaite has become comfortably the richest Blaugrana player. The bulk of his immense wealth is rooted within an $850,000 (£714,298) investment into the real estate business NYCE, which he is a partner of alongside his uncle, Phillip Michael.

The company's website boasts approximately £252million in assets under management, including a real estate portfolio believed to be worth around £210m. However, the portfolio, which includes properties within New York, Philadelphia, Jersey City and San Antonio, is far from his lone source of riches.

Braithwaite also co-owns clothing business ‘Trente’ alongside French entrepreneur, journalist and TV personality Anne-Leure Louis. And when he decides to kick back from his business endeavours, the 31-year-old can feast at his own restaurant 'Gave', which is located within Barcelona.
