Barcelona 'yet to receive bids for Antoine Griezmann' amid interest

Barcelona ‘yet to receive any official bids for Antoine Griezmann’ amid Manchester City, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid interest…as clubs and agents are happy to wait until end of transfer window to force the Catalans’ hand

  • Barcelona want to shift Antoine Griezmann but have not received a single offer
  • Spanish newspaper Marca said no official bids have arrived for the Frenchman
  • Barca’s precarious finances mean clubs and agents are biding their time
  • The Catalans have to reduce their wage bill in order to keep Lionel Messi

Antoine Griezmann has been linked with a whole host of top clubs this summer as Barcelona look to get the striker off their inflated wage bill, but a report from Spain says the Catalans have not received any bids so far for the Frenchman.

Atletico Madrid have shown the most interest in signing Griezmann, who left the Wanda Metropolitano to join Barca for £102million in 2019, but the LaLiga champions only want to do a swap deal involving midfielder Saul Niguez which is failing to come to fruition.

Barcelona have also approached Manchester City about a potential swap for Griezmann involving either Riyad Mahrez, Aymeric Laporte, Raheem Sterling or Bernardo Silva, according to Catalunya radio.

Chelsea have also been mentioned as possible suitors for the World Cup winning forward, as have Juventus, with a swap deal for Paulo Dybala being touted.

Barca, however, are yet to receive a single bid for Griezmann, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

Even though Barca are desperate to reduce their wage bill so they can register new signings such as Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia and hand Lionel Messi a contract, Griezmann is under no real pressure to leave.

Griezmann has a contract until 2024 and has said publicly he would like to complete the deal before seeing out his career in the United States.

Griezmann has been linked with Chelsea but they no longer sign players over 30 for big fees

Pep Guardiola’s s top target is Harry Kane, making a Man City move for Griezmann unlikely

Any club that does want to sign him, meanwhile, is in no hurry as the transfer window is open for another five weeks and everyone knows Barca are in a precarious situation due to the state of their finances and may have to accept a low offer.

‘Footballers agents and representatives are not stupid and they know that Barcelona are in a desperate and critical situation if they want to renew Messi’s contract so they know all they need to do is wait,’ said the Marca report.

‘There’s over a month to go and the club’s position is going to get weakened as they acknowledge the reality: either they sell player’s below their market value or they do not keep Messi.’

Manchester City are unlikely to be tempted to relinquish Sterling, Mahrez, Silva or Laporta to get Griezmann, as their top transfer target this summer is Harry Kane.

Chelsea could do with an extra striker after Timo Werner scored only six Premier League goals although they are said to be reluctant to sign Griezmann for a big fee as he is over the age of 30, with the west Londoners recently targetting younger players such as Werner, Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic.
