Barcelona right-back Dani Alves capped off a rollercoaster afternoon against Atletico Madrid by seeing red for a horrific tackle on Yannick Carrasco. The Brazilian veteran also notched a goal and an assist to complete a chaotic individual display which rolled back the years.
Alves reached an agreement in principle to rejoin Barca in November, having left the club in 2016.
Most recently, the 38-year-old was playing for Sao Paulo in his native Brazil, but the prospect of working under old team-mate Xavi at the Camp Nou appeared to tempting to turn down.
So much so, that Alves is reportedly Barca’s lowest paid player, on terms which could be as low as £5,000-a-week.
With the option of a one-year contract extension, Alves could play long enough to celebrate his 40th birthday at the Camp Nou, where he dazzled for an eight-year spell earlier in his career.
