Barcelona have sacked Ronald Koeman after a terrible run of results at the Camp Nou.

The Dutchman, who lost star player Lionel Messi in the summer to PSG, was appointed in August 2020.

But recently his side were humbled by Rayo Vallecano in a 1-0 defeat, after losing to bitter rivals Real Madrid at the weekend.

Barcelona said in a statement: "Barcelona has relieved Ronald Koeman of his duties as first team coach.

"The president of the club, Joan Laporta, informed him of the decision after the defeat against Rayo Vallecano.

"Ronald Koeman will say goodbye to the squad on Thursday at the Ciutat Esportiva."

"FC Barcelona wishes to thank him for his service to the Club and wishes him all the best in his professional career."

Top football guru Fabrizio Romano said an emergency meeting was held shortly after the loss to Rayo Vallecano.

He tweeted: "Ronald Koeman has been sacked. Barcelona are already looking for a new manager.

"Joan Laporta decided after Wednesday night defeat vs Rayo."

Koeman was hugely unpopular at the La Liga club, and fans were recently seen surrounding his car while leaving the ground.
