Barcelona receive £50m boost which will help them address problems
Barcelona ‘earn a £50m cash boost’ to address financial problems and help register new signings… with only 13 players currently listed ahead of the new season
- Barcelona have received a significant financial boost that will help them majorly
- The Spanish club currently have 13 players registered due to financial issues
- But they have brought the payment forward from the sale of one of their assets
Barcelona have received a significant financial boost which will help them to register new signings and players who renewed their contracts.
Owing to their financial problems, Barcelona currently only have 13 players registered – Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen, Jules Kounde, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Gavi, Franck Kessie, Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati, Robert Lewandowski, Ousmane Dembele and Raphinha.
Players who signed new contracts, such as Ronald Araujo, Sergi Roberto, Marcos Alonso and Inaki Pena, are not currently registered, as is the case with new signings Ilkay Gundogan, Inigo Martinez and Oriol Romeu.
However, reports in Spain suggest Barca are now able to register more players ahead of the new season after earning a £50million cash boost.
The Spanish giants have brought forward the final payment for their sale of Barca Studios, after agreeing to sell 49.9 per cent of their digital content arm to Orpheus Media and Socios for €200m (£171m) last year.
Barcelona (pictured president Joan Laporta) have received a significant financial boost
The Spanish club should now be able to register their new signings, including Ilkay Gundogan, after bringing forward the final payment due for their sale of Barca Studios
The financial boost will be a major positive for Xavi’s team ahead of the new campaign
After agreeing to let both companies, who took 24.5 per cent stakes for £85m each, pay instalments, Culemania report that Barca have managed to bring the final payment forward – which will fill a gap of €60m (£51m) in their finances. This comes as a huge boost for president Joan Laporta and manager Xavi.
Barca Studios manages the club’s audiovisual productions, including content for Barca TV and its social media and streaming platforms.
And bringing forward the final payment for the sale of the company has both relieved them of significant financial pressure as well as allow them to register more players.
It has been claimed that some of their new signings had clauses in their contracts which allowed them to leave if they were not registered by the opening game of the season against Getafe on August 12.
However, it appears that such a scenario will no longer occur.
Last month Barcelona finally registered Gavi as a first-team player with LaLiga and gave him back the No 6 shirt.
The midfielder agreed a new deal until 2026 last September but initially couldn’t be registered due to Barcelona’s financial problems.
