Barcelona offer wonderkid to PSG with Chelsea’s Kylian Mbappe bid ‘landing soon’

Barcelona have reportedly offered Paris Saint-Germain the chance to sign Gavi as part of a stunning swap deal for Kylian Mbappe. The Catalan giants are still operating with limited transfer funds as they continue to battle serious financial restrictions off the field but that hasn’t stopped them from attempting to beat arch rivals Real Madrid to the punch.

PSG have made no secret of the fact they are desperate to offload Mbappe, who is continuing to frustrate his current employers by swerving a contract extension.

Now PSG see no other alternative but to flog their star man before the September 1 transfer deadline to avoid the prospect of losing him on a free transfer in the summer of 2024.

According to L’Equipe, Barca have now made their move and have presented PSG with the chance to land Gavi as part of the package.

Gavi is one of Barcelona’s most promising players and has a whopping £856million (€1billion) release clause written into his contract at Camp Nou.

Yet Barca are prepared to lose their exceptional teenage talent in exchange for Mbappe, who could prove to be a game-changing signing for Xavi.

However, the report also notes that a bid from Chelsea appears to be imminent with the Blues also pushing for the Frenchman behind the scenes.

PSG are chasing a big-money fee though particularly after receiving a jaw-dropping £259m world-record proposal from Al Hilal.

Mbappe has made it crystal clear he won’t be moving to Saudi Arabia though and that has blown the race for his signature wide open.

Real Madrid remain clear favourites to land the 2018 World Cup winner on a Bosman next summer when his contract at the Parc des Princes expires at the end of the 2023/24 season.

But PSG don’t see that as a viable solution and could therefore slash their asking price later in the window in a bid to force Mbappe out of the door.

Barca’s chances of landing Mbappe could also be bolstered by Ousmane Dembele’s impending switch to PSG.

PSG failed to beat the clock and activate Dembele’s £45m release clause by the end of July and therefore must now negotiate a final fee with Barcelona.

Dembele has already approved the transfer and would be set to sign a five-year contract with the French giants ahead of his return to Ligue 1.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi is still believed to be keen on signing Harry Kane if Mbappe departs but the England captain has little interest in the move.

Instead, he is holding out for Bayern Munich as talks continue with Tottenham over a statement transfer that could cost up to £100m if Spurs get their way.

Bayern are currently offering £70m plus add-ons but are expected to raise their bid to £86m in the near future following face-to-face discussions with Daniel Levy in London on Monday.
